Carols Things Buys Estates and Conducts Estate Sales
Has it become your responsibility to deal with an estate? We can
help. We understand this is a difficult time for you and perhaps
dealing with an estate is just more than you can handle. We have
been in that situation ourselves.
What are my choices? How do I get rid of all this stuff? I want
to get the most I can for it. We can help with all of this.
When it comes to disposing of an estate, you have a few choices
on how to do it...
- Handle it all yourself. This means holding an estate sale.
The problems with this choice are...
- Time. Unless the estate is very small, this requires 1
to 3 weeks of preparation.
- Knowledge. Most people don't know what everything is
worth so they end up pricing many items too cheap and many
items too high. The first day of the sale, your "too cheap"
items get snatched up and your "too high" items are left.
- You are still stuck with a lot of stuff after the sale.
Most of what is left tends to be of little value or were
items you had priced too high.
- Have an estate auction. This is a good way to make sure you
get all the stuff gone, but you might not like how much you get
for it. Most of the people who go to the auctions are dealers
(we go ourselves all the time). This means they have to buy low
enough to make a profit, then you have to pay 25% to 40% of what
you get to the auction house. Most people regret this choice
after it is over. You end up selling at wholesale and then
paying 25% to 40% commission out of that!
- Bring in someone like us. We handle estates in 2 different
ways.
- We can make you a cash offer on everything and if you
accept then we pay you and load up everything and that is
the end of it. We have to make a profit on what
we buy, but we know what most items are worth and we pay a fair
price. If you don't like what we offer, then you simply tell us
no. This is the fastest way to get through with an estate.
Basically we will pay you what we would pay for the items if
we bought them at auction ourselves.
- We can stage an estate sale for you. We do this on a
percentage deal and take care of everything. This is a good
option if you have some heirs that want to buy some of the
items. Yes we get a percentage, but we are selling the items
at retail so you end up with more than you would if you had
sold at an auction. When the sale is over you will still
have stuff left (mostly junk) and we will either make you a
cash offer on the remaining items or arrange for them to be
sold at a local auction gallery, or donate them to a
charity. That will be up to you.
